Friends of Polish Art (FPA) is proud to announce the 2024 Suzanne Marie Margaret Sloat Youth Literary Competition.
The competition is open to all 4th-12th grade Michigan students in the State of Michigan. Participants may submit one essay based on a theme assigned to one of three levels of competition. Level I is for students in the 4th-6th grades; Level II is for students in the 7th-9th grades, and Level III is for students from the 10th -12th grade. Each essay must be a minimum of 500 words with a maximum limit of 1000 words. Deadline for entering submissions is Monday, July 1st, 2024. Entries must be the original work of the author that has never been published or won an award in any other competition. Entries may be in English or in Polish.
Award recipients will be awarded in September of 2024 at the annual FPA General Membership Meeting. The date is yet still to be determined.
ENTRY RULES
- Open to all 4th -12th grade students attending any Michigan school.
- All entries must be essays based on the assigned theme for each level. They must be original, never have been published or received an award in any other competition. All entries must be typed, double spaced, with a minimum length of 500 words and a maximum length of 1000 words. Participants may submit only one entry. Entries may be in English or in Polish.
- There will be three levels of competition:
Level I: 4th – 6th Grade
Level II: 7th – 9th Grade
Level III: 10th – 12th Grade - Essay Theme for all levels:
“My adventures with a famous Polish person or Polish Legend or Mythological Creature” - Please send your entries by Word or PDF attachment to: panijessica33@outlook.com along with the attached “Entry Form/Permission Slip”.
- Deadline for entries is Monday, July 1st, 2024. Award recipients will be notified by the end of August 2024 and announced at the annual FPA General Membership Meeting on to be held in September of 2024. Please put your name only on the “Entry Form/Permission Slip”– not on your entry.
- Prizes:
Level I: 1st Place $100; 2nd Place $75; 3rd Place $50
Level II: 1st Place $125, 2nd Place $100; 3rd Place $75
Level III: 1st Place $150, 2nd Place $125; 3rd Place $100
(1st Place Award for Level III will be matched by ACPC) - Winning essays will be placed online at the Friends of Polish Arts website
Submission of papers constitutes a copyright license to the Friends of Polish Arts (FPA) to publish and/or reprint the winning papers should FPA choose to do so without royalties or other fees. By submitting the paper, the entrants represent that they have the right to grant this license.
